“Weird. Community. (Cozy) Chaos.”
Tell us the story of your bookstore’s origin.
The Book Burrow was started in 2021 in owner Kelsey Black’s garage when she identified a lack of bookstores in Pflugerville, TX. We’re independently owned, and we sell new and pre-loved books and we host author events, game nights, and more. What began as a small, grassroots effort to bring books closer to the community quickly grew into something bigger - a place for readers to gather, discover new stories, and support a locally owned business. We were created with the intention of being a safe space for all, particularly for the LGBTQIA+ community, and joyously stocking titles from a wide array of diverse authors. That original goal remains at the heart of The Book Burrow today: making books accessible while building community, one reader at a time.
What makes your bookstore special?
Our motto is “Embrace your weird,” and we encourage customers to embrace their own version of weird, whatever that may be. Whether it’s a love of quirky literature, films, tabletop games – whatever it is, we want to help our customers discover it.
In addition, we love promoting and celebrating the work of authors whose work might not yet be mainstream. We like giving authors who haven’t had a shot in traditional publishing a chance to get their books on shelves, hold author events, and find fiercely loyal readers.
In 2023, we were in danger of losing our brick and mortar location because of renovations, so we took to our community to ask for help. They rallied, helping us sell 1000 books in under two weeks so we could finance the next stage of our adventure.
