1970. Started by UT Students as Grok Books and changed hands to become BookPeople in 1984. Inspired by Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451, BookPeople stands for equal access, fighting censorship, and nurturing a community that's bound by books.
What makes your bookstore special?
BookPeople, Texas’ largest independent bookstore, has been a staple in Austin’s Community since 1970. Voted the Best Bookstore in Austin for over 20 years, BookPeople is known for their high-profile author events, locally curated gifts, outstanding coffee shop, and a team of friendly, well-read booksellers who love to make thoughtful recommendations for readers of any age!
