— Describe your store in three words

Tell us the story of your store’s origin.

We opened in 1982 as a bookstore and gathering space for poets and activists. Our founder raúlrsalinas was imprisoned for many years and when he was finally released he traveled to the Pacific Northwest to get involved in the Campaign to Free Leonard Peltier. When he returned to his hometown of Austin he wanted to create a space that celebrated literature in the Chicanx community while also bringing people of many different backgrounds together, a truly multicultural space.

What makes your store special?

Resistencia Books is the longest running Latinx focused bookstore in the Southwest! We specialize in literature by Latinx, Chicanx, and Indigenous authors, as well as local authors and poets.

What are a few of your store’s favorite books from the past year?
