Year Opened — 2022

Employees — We're "Best Little" for a reason! Only 2 of us regularly on, and a handful of locals who pick up shifts when we have events & pop-ups.

Intimate, nostalgic, inviting.
— Describe your store in three words

What’s the story of your bookstore’s origin?

Best Little opened in March 2022. My background is in hospitality and Food & Beverage education, so it was always my dream to open a bottle shop/bar with access to industry books for folks eager to learn more about the things they're eating and drinking. We were already in the process of moving to Lockhart and were thankfully encouraged by some of the locals to just dive in and do it!

What makes your bookstore special?

We're a wine bar & bottle shop specializing in small, family-owned organic wine producers with a vast collection of food & beverage books from wine reference guides to cocktail books, memoirs, and cookbooks.

Pick 5 books to represent your bookstore:

We are loving Geraldine DeRuiter’s “If You Can’t Take the Heat: Tales of Food, Feminism, & Fury" for a bold and appropriately sarcastic collection of essays about the service/restaurant industry, "Italian Wine" by Shelley Lindgren is my new favorite guide to all things (you guessed it) related to Italian wine, and "The Waldorf Astoria Bar Book" by Frank Caiafa that should be in every cocktail lover's library.

Visit Best Little Wine & Books and 30+ independent bookstores on April 4 and 5 during the 2026 Austin Texas Book Trail.
